Employee Benefits

The City offers all full-time employees a bevy of insurance options and full retirement along with other services.


All Police Officers and Firefighters are enrolled in LOPFI (Local Police and Fire) upon employment. Currently, all Police Officers contribute 3.5% of his or her salary and the City contributes 24%. All Firefighters contribute 9.5% of his or her salary and the City contributes 24%. Firefighters do not contribute into social security.

All non-uniform employees including Dispatchers are enrolled in APERS (Arkansas Public Employee Retirement System) upon employment. Currently, all of these employees hired after July 1, 2023 contribute 5.5% of his or her salary and the City contributes 15.32%.

Employees are also eligible to contribute to a 457(b) plan administered by Arkansas Diamond. 

Holidays and Time-Off

All non-uniform employees will receive time off for 16 different holidays throughout the year. All of our uniformed employees receive "holiday pay" which is a lump sum check for all of these 16 holidays towards the end of the year.

All employees receive an abundance of sick and vacation time. The amount depends on which profession you choose, along with time served in the City.

Medical Insurance

All full time employees are eligible for health insurance through the Arkansas Municipal League. This is a bundled package and includes dental, vision, prescription and life insurance. For single or family coverage, employees pay 23%, while the City pays 77%.

The City also offers employees secondary or additional dental and vision options through Delta Dental and VSP. For each selection, the employee pays 25%, while the City pays 75%.

For military employees still active in any branch of the armed services as a guard member, the City will pay the entire portion of the employee's Tri-Care premium.

Supplemental Insurance

The City is proud to partner with OneAmerica, Transamerica, and Nationwide to offer a wide range of supplemental polices to all full-time employees. These polices are all paid 100% by the employee. These policies include Accident, Cancer, Hospital Gap, Critical Illness, Life Insurance, Long-Term Disability, Short-Term Disability, and a Pet Insurance Policy. American Fidelity also provides employees with the option of Medical or Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts.

Life Insurance

The City provides all employees a $25,000 life insurance policy at no cost. This includes a $15,000 policy on spouses and dependents.

Employee Assistance Program

The City provides all employees access to an employee assistance program through Southwest EAP. This is at no cost to the employee.

Tuition Reimbursement

All employees who have been with the City one-calendar year, are eligible for tuition reimbursement on courses that can improve the employee's knowledge within his or her field.
