Caring For Your Cat

  • Keep your cat safe by keeping them indoors.
  • Make sure your cat is outfitted with a collar and visible ID tag with your name, address, and phone number clearly marked.
  • Have your cat microchipped at the Cabot Animal Shelter or your Veterinarians office and it will ensure that if your cat is picked up it can be returned to you.
  • Make sure your cat receives all vaccinations and regular checkups.
  • Spay or neuter your cat
  • Make sure to keep your cat's litter box clean.  The most common reason a cat will stop using the litter box is because the box is too dirty for their liking or perhaps they would like an additional box.  In addition, if a cat is sick, it is also common for them to eliminate outside their box.
  • If your cat stops using the litter box you should take him to the vet to make sure there isn't an underlying health issue.
  • There are alternatives to declawing such as using nail caps (found at pet supply stores) and clipping your cat's nails.  Start trimming your cat's nails from a young age and they'll let you do it when they are adults.
